Randoms and the Day I Found THE Dress.

{Last week marked 250 days until our BIG DAY!}

So much left to do but so much checked off the list too!

* Three weekends ago, I found, paid for and ordered “THE dress”. I had zero intentions of finding my dress that day, let alone buying one. It caught me waaaay off guard, but as cliché as it sounds, I just knew it was the one. We laughed, we cried, it was a big ‘ol bag of overwhelming emotions.

On that day I had my mom, sister, Aunt Linda (on my mom’s side…because let’s face it we’re in the south and I have two Aunt Linda’s) and my cousin Sarah with me. It was a great group to shop with…I’m so so glad they were able to go and be there on what ended up being the only shopping trip we needed.  (I would share a picture or two but every now and then the future Mr. checks my blog and wouldn’t that just ruin the fun.)

* Two weekends ago, we went Bridesmaids Dress shopping….it was less than successful. I thought it was going to be BEYOND easy. I had a really good idea of what I wanted and it was super simple criteria. The search continues.

That’s all I have to say about that.  {*UPDATE: Since first writing this post, and holding on to it, I think I have found the 'maids dress!!! SUCCESS!!*}

* We were warmly greeted at 2 of the 3 stores where we had appointments that day.
Platt…Flatt…it all sounds the same over the phone.

* Valentine’s day is coming up which means you can find a variety of these Dove lovelies in the stores. #fatgirlproblems.
But they each have a cute little message inside the wrappers. That makes it all worth it, right?

* If you’re a “boy mom” (which I am not, but am proudly a “boy aunt”) does this happen at your house?
Riley used to do this all of the time…whether it was in the floor at home, on a table or on a church pew…now Colin’s doing it. These boys are big fans of lining their cars up nice and neat.

* Oh and it wouldn’t be a random post if I didn’t mention the new season of “The Bachelor”. (Yes, I’m one of “those” girls who’s absolutely addicted to this show.)
* Annnnways....his sister has a blog...and it's quite entertaining. Check her out  at Mix & Match Family AND she has a food blog with GREAT recipes, Mix & Match Mama.

* I'm not sure about you and where you live, but here, in middle TN, this week....the last week OF JANUARY, we've had temperatures in the 70's, flooding, tornadoes, temps in the teens and now snow. Crazy.

* We saw Les Mis back after Christmas and I just can't get it out of my head. I just LOVED that movie. Have you seen it? You should. Well, my disclaimer is, you should see it IF you like musicals. Because there is VERY little spoken word in this film. But it's brilliant and this film, this cast deserves every award that comes their way! (just my opinion)
* I just now realized I've never posted about the Proposal...maaaan, I'm so far behind. It's coming...I promise. Next week! Stay tuned!!

* We celebrated my sister's birthday back on the 10th! Aren't birthdays so much fun!? Cake (or cupcakes, whichever fancies you), presents and people sing to you!
* All you brides (current & former) reading this, did or do you find yourself listening to EVERY song you hear trying to figure out if it's a "wedding song"? No? Just me? Alright.

*And last week S sneakily dropped these off in my office during the 5 minutes I stepped out to go get lunch. Love him.

Tulips. Yellow. Perfection.

Can't wait to marry this one!

Don't you just love a good random post?

The Slavens

The majority of customers I get are "word of mouth" customers...and often times, they turn out to be my best and favorite ones.

I met Angela through my friend Emilee and before long she was placing orders for this and that.

Here's the 2 most recent for their new home starting with their daughter's room...

And one for the new Dining Room

Thanks so much for the orders Angela, hope you enjoy them in your new home!

How They Became My Bridesmaids

It is no secret that people refer to me as a "professional bridesmaid." I've heard more sentences that start with, "Have you seen that movie '27 Dresses'?" or "You're like the '27 Dresses' girl!" than possibly any other person on this planet has.

I have been a bridesmaid 14 times.

Once Stephen and I started seriously talking about marriage and I knew it was 99% a done deal, I started thinking about who all I would have. I have family that I am incredibly close to and I have friends that are just as close as family. I knew from the VERY beginning that unless we eloped, it was going to be a BIG wedding party.

I wanted to ask my girls in a "special" way, and it was the during the weeks leading up to Christmas so I just thought it would be the perfect time. Naturally, I ran to Pinterest for ideas but nothing was just screaming at me. Hard to believe, eh? One day during lunch I ran over to my second home Hobby Lobby and shopped around. I saw the plain glass ball ornaments and the idea hit me immediately.
I filled them with epsom salt, wrote the big question, stuck on a few sparkly things and tied them them off with ribbons in our wedding colors. (There's a sneak peek for ya!) Then, I bagged them all up and started making plans to meet up with the gals.
First up was Angela.....AND Anna. (I included flower girls too.) This picture cracks me up. She is definitely her daughter. Look at those faces.

Kate was next and boy, oh boy was she surprised!
I planned to give my sister her's first but the stomach virus attacked their house with a MALICIOUS VENGEANCE on this particular week, so I held out on her's a few days hoping I would be spared from catching the bug myself.  (*Disclaimer...Do not be confused, this is not a pouty face. Her's was a little extra special asking her to by my Matron of Honor. I don't think she was expecting that.)

Next was Emilee and this one may be my favorite picture because of that handsome photo bomber in the bottom left corner. What was he wearing?!
I was able to knock out three at one time during a lunch break one day. It was only fitting that I asked my sweet cousins at the same time.

It was also only fitting that I ask my friends Amy & Molly together. Back in the day the three of us were "The W.A.Y. Chicks" as our youth group referred to us. We've been great friends for a long, long time and there's always alot of laughter going on.

We met Kayla half-way in McMinnville one afternoon. I just love her.
And last but certainly not least, Miss Audrey. This girl makes me laugh harder than any kid I've ever met and I know she's going to be a ray of sunshine on our big day! Audrey's mom and I are co-workers and have become good friends. Audrey and I clicked the first time we ever met. As soon as she found out we were engaged she was already making plans on what kind of dress to wear...not knowing she'd be a flower girl. (This is also the same girl that told her mom long before I ever met Stephen that, "Erica's getting older..she needs to find a boyfriend to marry so she can have kids.")
 CAREFULLY reading the question....
 The response....."WHY SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So, there ya have it. That's how the 10 best friends a girl could have became the 10 best bridesmaids a bride could have.

Yes, there's 10.

Plus 2 flower girls.

Yes, I realize that's a ton of people.

But I wouldn't have it ANY other way.

One Night.....

We had to make a return at Belk's. And I had the grand idea, "Let just go back here and browse through dishes, and cookware and all the wedding registry stuff....because we can!"
S got a tad excited about the flatware. And luckily we both picked the SAME pattern as our favorite. Naturally it was like the next to the most expensive set they had. We've still got some shopping around to do before we make a lifetime decision on which flatware pattern we want.
It was a whim of an idea and certainly nothing we had planned to do any time soon.

But I'm not gonna was SO. MUCH. FUN.

We're going to ROCK at this wedding stuff!

The 2012 Wrap-Up

Hope everyone's holidays were more enjoyable than mine. Ha. Yeah, I got sick two days before Christmas. Like, seriously...S.I.C.K. It was miserable. But I was better a few days later, which seemed like an eternity and all is back to normal and well now.

Somewhere in blog land I found a post similar to the one you're about to read with questions that help sum up my 2012 year in review. I thought it looked like fun and decided to give it a whirlydoo.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you've never done before?
I packed my bags and took a week-long Winter vacay in GORGEOUS Maui, Hawaii. Pure. Perfection.
2. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes!! One of my best friends, Angela and her hubs welcomed sweet Anna in March!! Perfect timing too, because I think she's going to make a cute little flower girl in September!
3. Did anyone close to you die?
Unfortunately it seemed like we lost several distant family members and church family members this year. The closest death in the family was the passing of my Uncle Robert in the Summer. He suffered for several years with Alzheimer's. It's hard to see a person's mind fade away, but I will always remember him for his humor and kind, warm heart. The man never met a stranger.

4. What dates from 2012 will remain etched in your memory & why?
Three come to mind very very quickly.
May 12th, the day my "little" cousin Sarah married her best friend in the most perfect wedding I've ever seen. (Click here, here & here for all the goods from this day!)
August 17th, the day we introduced my grandpa to one of the greatest Atlanta Braves players of all time, David Justice.

November 16th, the day that changed my life.

5. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Luckily nothing more than your regular cold and worst stomach virus ever with the worst timing ever. Other than that, healthy as can be!

6. What is the best thing you bought yourself in 2012?
Hands down, my iPhone. Game changer. Hands down.

7. Where did most of your money go?
More than likely the same place where the rest of America's money & gas.

8. What song will always remind you of 2012?
This one...see the entire blog post I devoted to it back in May. You are welcome.

9. What do you wish you had done more of / less of?
Definitely wish I would've spent MUCH more time with my family friends and NOT kept such a jam-packed calendar this year. I love these people oh so very much!!

10. What was your favorite TV program?
Well, it should ask favorite TV programS...plural. This year I was wrapped up in...
and my favorite BY far...these guys...

11. What was the best book you read this year?
I'll narrow it down to two, Tim Tebow's book & Brad Paisley's book. Both great guys. Both great reads.

12. What was your favorite movie this year?
This one was hard because it would include having to remember all the movies we've seen. But the one that sticks out the most is the latest Bond installment, Skyfall

13. What did you do on your birthday & how old were you?
This year I turned my forever age. I will now be 29 forever. OK? We kept celebrations pretty low-key in the middle of a busy August with a simple dinner & fabulous cake (even if the name was misspelled).

14. Did you travel anywhere this year?
Well, if you've made it through this post this far you know I went to Hawaii in January / February. Save your money and plan a trip like this for yourself very very soon!

We also had a few other quick weekend trips in the Summer. We went to Fort Benning, Georgia a couple of times for S's brother's break & then graduation from Infantry School.
Then we hit Gatlinburg for a family weekend. We had so much fun together. Including many many photos at a new wax museum. You must go....annnnnd take your camera.

And we started October with a trip to Disney World!

15. What national event stirred you the most?
I chose to look at this 2 ways. Which event stirred me the most in a negative and positive way. I think it goes without saying that the tragedy at Sandy Hook School shook our nation as a whole. Such devastation and sadness. Our comfort comes from knowing that those precious, precious children are safe in the arms of God now and will never know or experience pain, hurt or fear. They will forever know unconditional love and pure joy.
On the positive side of national events, I really enjoyed the Summer Olympics in London this year. I think we watched them every night for two weeks. True story.

16. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012?
I think this past year, more than ever before, I have learned to be thankful and appreciative for all that I have. Big and small. Everything matters.

I'm thankful for my daily life and daily routines, I'm thankful for the people in my family, friends, church family, co-workers, the future hubs, my future in-laws and their families, I'm thankful for laughter and moments that make me laugh so hard I can't breathe, I'm thankful for my home, I'm thankful for all the opportunities that have come my way this year, I' m thankful for forgiveness and second chances, I'm thankful for modern technology and the luxuries they provide...not necessities, luxuries, I'm thankful to finally be marrying "the one" and I'm so so very thankful for the life that lies ahead for us together.

So there ya have it, my 2012, all in one handy-dandy blog post! So excited to dive into 2013 and soak it all up! It's going to be a GREAT year!!!!!
