Let's Dance!!!!

I want to start this post by saying how much my heart is breaking for the folks of Joplin, Missouri. I cannot imagine what it must've felt like and what all they are going through now. Seeing their hospital take such a direct hit, really struck home. What if that happened to the hospital where I work? We have these plans in place, but if it ever actually happened...what would we do? I hope and pray we never have to find out, but this has been a string of some insane weather around us lately. Please say a special prayer for Joplin, and if you have the opportunity to give or help in relief efforts, do what you can with what you have.

New customer, Andrea Bingham, ordered this 12x24 (which I believe is the most popular size ever) for her daughter's Dance teacher as a wedding / thank you gift.

I love the drama that this black and red have together!

What a wonderful idea for Andrea to thank her daughter's teacher! I would think a Dance teacher would be BOLD and fun and dramatic...at least, that's what I had in mind when I planned this one. Hope it turned out that way...what do you think?

So,  for the soon-to-be Mrs. Camacho, Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and thanks for all your hard work teaching these kids dance!

For Andrea, thanks so much for the order, I think it turned out great!

Pomp & Circumstance & Misquito Bites

Today was High School Graduation day in Putnam County; with the exception of Monterey whose was last night. Graduating with honors were 4 of my cousins! From CHS, Ann Marie Anderson, Charity Ashburn & Scott Hannah & from UHS MegAnn Weddle!!! SOO proud of these kids! The world is your canvas...paint it one stroke at a time.  : )

These two were orders I did back at Christmas (hence the Christmas presents in the background). Thought it would be appropriate to save them to post now. The graduate above is from Jackson County High School in case you're not familiar with that Blue Devils blue.
Below, is one for my cousin Ann Marie. Word is she's taking it with her when she starts school at UTC in the fall!

Now on to mosquito bites.

I have them.

Lots of them.

All in good efforts to make my flower pots pretty & clean & new.....I got bit like a ba-JILLION times. Just on one leg, one arm, one shoulder, one armpit, and one side of my back. APPARENTLY, the right side of my body was not attractive to those little demons yesterday, just the left side. I've tried it an oatmeal based lotion and calomine lotion. (Is that how you spell it?) Not helping. I can't take Benadryl because it makes me feel nervous & antsy? My uncle told me tonight to try Lysterine. Really? I can't even gargle with that stuff...let alone muster the thought of rubbing it on my body. YUCK.

This is where you insert your suggestions in the comments section. PLEASE & HURRY!

Watch Baby Grow

This time it was the creative mind of the customer behind this canvas...which was intimidating & SUPER fun!! New mom, Angela Slaven requested a "Watch Baby Grow" inspired canvas that would showcase pictures of her new baby girl at 3, 6, 9 & 12 months old. What a GREAT idea!!!

Since I didn't have pictures of her daughter to use, and since I couldn't bring myself to put pictures of my nephews in this PINK on PINK canvas, I used various pictures I found of my little doll baby cousin, Lorelei..whose middle name is shared with Miss Addison!

It may be several months away, but I hope I see a picture of this in Addison's room in the future filled with her own pictures!! Thanks so much for the wonderful idea Angela!! I'm thinking there may be more of these to come!

19 Mom's & Counting....

My sister is a 2nd Grade teacher at Cane Creek Elementary School. For Mother's Day this year, she had her students paint these clay flower pots. Then, they came my way for personalization.

There were 19 flower pots in this batch, then 3 more came later on for a grand total of
21 MOMS!!!

This was a great idea, Dana! Hope your stundents' mom liked them!! Happy Mother's Day to 21 Moms of 2nd graders at Cane Creek!!

Happy Mother's Day

I could write forever & a day about how important my mom is to me. Not only her, but my grandmother. Not only the two of them but also my 7 aunts and multiple other ladies who have treated me like their own daughter or granddaughter for many years now. They all play such a significant role in my life and for that I am forever thankful. Below are just a few of my faves of the past couple of years...

I can't help but think of one of my favorite Eric Church songs...yes I can make an Eric Church reference out of just about anything...it's called "Those I've Loved". Click here to listen! So much of it is true to my very own life and I will save that for another day. But for today, I'm thankful for my mom, Ma, my aunts, Ms. Burton, my best friends' moms, ladies from our church and all the others who have influenced my life beyond measure!!

I also remember my grandmother on the Flatt side, Mildred Flatt, or simply Mammy. I miss her and Papa everyday and think of them everyday. My dad's sermon on Mother's Day Sunday always pulls on the heartstrings because he always brings her up.

She was a very special lady who was faithful, meek, had the best laugh, always wanted to fix you something to eat, had the most beautiful flower beds I've ever seen, would play with my hair everytime I sat in front of her (I miss that dearly), would sit in the pew behind us at church and after most services when I turned around she would slide some money in my hand...I never knew why, but she did and would tell me not to tell anyone, she was strong and she was a fighter. So many times we thought she would soon be leaving us and she'd fight her way back. I know prayer had much to do with it also.

Then, the time came when she did leave us, it was as if she knew it was her time, because she didn't put up a fight that time. She'd always pat your hand or pat your leg if she was sitting beside or holding a baby and that's one the last memories I have of her. I stood beside her bed in that hospital room and took her hand and patted it just like she had mine for all those years.

I miss her and I assume I always will. But we carry her love and her influence and her faith with us everyday....she lives on.

So now that I sit here with tears streaming down my face, and cake baking in the oven for Mother's Day lunch tomorrow...all I can think of to wrap this is up is: Happy Mother's Day to all Moms, Grandmas, Aunts, Sisters, Friends, & Co-Workers out there! I love you all and am honored to have each of you in my life.

Girls Just Wanna Have FUN!!!!

I meant to post this over the weekend...but that crazy little monster called life struck again. Yippee, she said in a sarcastic tone. Now, on to story time..

Back in my college days, I started out as a Nursing major and went all the way through half of my junior year before realizing, it just wasn't for me. Took a semester off, changed majors, started back, graduated two and half years later, fast forward almost 4 years and here we are.

I tell you that to tell you this...the BIGGEST blessing I received those years I spent in Nursing was gaining the best group of 12 friends a girl could ask for! Years have passed, almost all of them are married and over half have babies on the way, newborns, toddlers, or preschoolers now. One of them being, Valerie.

Val married Will and Will has a daughter, Taylor. And those three make the cutest little family!!

So, Taylor is getting a "big girl" room and Valerie ordered this to go in it.

She said Taylor was very girlie....YAY!!! I love girlie ones!! This meant LOTS of hot pink & some green & BLING & sparkle..all the things little girls are made of!!

Thanks so much for the order Val. It was soooo much fun to make this one!!
Hope Taylor loves it & her new room!!!
