Summer Favorites

Since today is the first day of the most wonderful time of the year, I thought I would post a few of my favorite pics from the whirlwind Summer we had!

We ended our Summer with our nephews finishing their t-ball and coach's pitch season. They both did great and we're so proud of them!! Riley is quite the ballplayer for a 7 year old....and Colin.....well, Colin is Colin and he beats to his own drum. He was there.

Colin graduated from Daycare! And just like that....he's now in Kindergarten. WHAT IN THE WORLD!?!
We managed to squeeze in some fun "Double Dates" with friends. And for the record, it still very much counts as as date when your friends' kid comes along! Dinner and snow cones? Yes, please!!
BY FAR, the biggest event for Summer 2014.....

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!! I still can't believe it sometimes. We started the process back in late February. Looked at 16 houses and the one that would be "ours" was the last one we looked at. We had NO desire to look beyond it. It's like finding your wedding dress....when you know it's yours...you know!

We made an offer only to find out another offer was on the table before ours. After two days of nerves and LOTS of prayers, we got a phone call that I honestly wasn't prepared for. "You got the house!" DO WHAT?!? Stephen told me in the Kroger parking lot that we were homeowners. I didn't believe him. Then we met our realtor at a local place that has nothing but those kids' bounce houses that they rent out for birthday parties to sign paperwork immediately. Kroger and Jumpville.....we take this home ownership thing to a whole new level of class folks!

It didn't sink in until several hours later. HOW did this happen?! Answered prayers! That's how it happened.

That was the easy part, find a house, make an offer, offer accepted, sign a TON of "paperwork" via our iPhones....piece of cake. Everything after that was the awful part. On paper, everything was fine. EVERYTHING. But due to the type of loan we were seeking, we started to have MAJOR problems the DAY BEFORE we were SUPPOSED to close. Back and forth our bank went with the mortgage company. Our closing date was rescheduled twice. The poor little old lady who previously owned the house had already moved to Arizona. It was bad.

Finally, our bank stepped in and took our loan off the table with the mortgage company and financed it "in-house" which apparently they NEVER do or that would've been our FIRST step months prior.

We finally closed at the end of May and moved in on June 7th!
We QUICKLY learned our way around Lowes! And made several carload trips from our apartment to the new house. We were so blessed to have SO many friends and family help us move that weekend!
On our very first morning waking up at the new house, I opened the blinds to our back porch to see these beauties sitting on our patio table! My friends are better than yours! :)
As if we didn't have anything to do after moving in, we took a weekend trip with my family to the mountains. We found ourselves playing putt putt everynight. He was THRILLED as you can tell.
On July 12th, these two surprised the entire family during dinner that, "Oh yeah, we're having the baby tomorrow!" We were all shocked and OH SO EXCITED to finally meet Baby Girl Brady and hear her name announced for the first time!
A little over 24 hours later after the big announcement, we met Miss Arabelle Mae Brady! She is gorgeous and PERFECT in every way!!
To celebrate my grandparents' birthdays, we loaded up the car and went on a double date with them! Gotta love 80 something year old and car selfies!!
More car selfies! Stephen got off work early one day, picked the boys up, and went swimming! He's THE BEST uncle!
And wrapping up our Summer, we had the great privilege of being in our friends Robert & Katie's wedding! And yes, those of you who know me or have been reading for a while, this was bridesmaid dress #15! Katie was beautiful and Robert was handsome and the day was made for them! We are soooo happy for these two!

We love being in September weddings together! Our 1 year is less than a week away....but more on that later!

As wonderful as our Summer was, I can't wait to celebrate Fall and Christmas in our new home! There may or may not be all kinds of pumpkins on display. Who am I kidding, they've been up for two weeks!!

Happy FALL!!!

Well, Hello There!

Here's what happened...I knew good and well when I published my last post on September 3, 2013 that I probably wouldn't be posting for a while with the wedding coming up. Never did I EVER imagine that it would be 379 days later.

I could list a 101 excuses, but I don't like excuses so I'll spare you.

ALOT has happened in 379 days. ALOT of mindless, non-important stuff and ALOT of life-changing moments. To say it's been a CRAZY 12+ months, is somewhat of an understatement. I look forward to the days when we have nothing to do and our weekends are not booked 5 weeks in advance. #keepdreamingerica

While I hope to get back involved in this, I will go ahead and promise that it won't happen on a daily or even at times weekly basis. But I do hope to get back into it enough to document our life. Looking back that's what I have missed the most and regret the most....that so much has happened in the past year and I didn't document it.

However, that's the greatest thing about having photos. You can always look back on all your memories. That's what I hope to do here in the coming weeks. A 379 day review if you will.

I also have some housekeeping to do on this site. I'll be getting to those small changes in the coming days and weeks as well. For starters, the "About Me" section has been updated. Next up is updating pictures (because I'm CERTAIN those two pics of Stephen & I were the first two we ever had made together.....time FLIES) and my favorite....the blogs I stalk! I completely took that section out for now, because that list has changed quite a bit. I still follow some of the same great daily reads, but I've also found several news ones that I just adore! I look forward to getting that part back up soon!

For those of you wondering, I do still paint, just not as much as I once did. Everything has its season. Quite honestly, it's just not been a priority of mine in this past year. But, I do still do it and enjoy it. "The Waiting Game" section to the right of this post has been updated as well. Those are all of my current orders in no particular order.

So.....that's it! I'm glad to be back and I'm so humbled by the ones who have asked me a million times, "Remember that time you had a blog?" or "You've not blogged in forever!" or the simple "I miss reading your blog." That kind of encouragement and support really meant more to me than anything else could!

With all that being said, let's get started........again!

Summer Jamz

I just had the overpowering urge to write that title with a “z”…it’s what the cool kids do.

I’ve been wearing my iPhone out this summer so far playing the same songs…over. and over. and over.

When  I get attached to certain tunes I like…I tend to play them on repeat until I can’t stand them anymore. Ok, not entirely true, I always love them but there comes a point when I just get tired of them for a few months. Totally my fault…I’ll own it. Anyone else do this, no, just me? Mkay.

Here are the songs that I’m listening to this summer….are any on your playlists?

Kenny Chesney, “When I See This Bar” – I’m a huge KC fan, but the past couple of years nothing of his has really struck me as great…and finally, here comes this one and my faith in him has been restored.

Dierks Bentley, “Bourbon in Kentucky” – Dierks is my main squeeze (behind Eric Church, of course) and this new song from a new upcoming album is a new feel and sound for him. Just my opinion. But I LOVE it. Can’t wait to hear more!!

Charlie Worsham, “Could it Be” – This fella is new….at least I think he is. He’s one of my XM radio finds. That’s one of my favorite things about paying for a radio subscription…it’s not the same 12 songs over and over…it’s people you haven’t heard of yet, but will soon enough because they’re pretty dang good.

Eli Young Band, “Drunk Last Night” – I’ve been following this Texas based band for several years now….their harmonies are great and the music behind the words is always catchy. Like DB, I can’t wait to hear more from the new album!
Jake Owen, “Anywhere With You” – Ok, so I’ve known this song since the album came out in 2011….for 2 years this song has been my favorite on the album and it’s finally hit mainstream radio. 2 years and I still love singing along everytime!

Lady Antebellum, “Goodbye Town” – I don’t think there’s anything these 3 can do badly. They just rock. And secretly when I sing along with them, I just KNOW I could be the band’s 4th member. Whatdoyasay Charles, Hillary & Dave? Interested?

Little Big Town, “Your Side of the Bed” – Seeing as how I just praised Lady A, I’m going to go out on a limb and say this…I believe, with all of my heart, that LBT has the  best harmonies in the music industry, not just country, the ENTIRE industry. They’re just lovely!

Looking back on what I just wrote, I realize that 3 out of the 7 referenced alcohol in someway shape or form in their titles…bar, bourbon, drunk. Sheesh…makes me sound like a lush. Which I assure you I am not, quite the far opposite actually. I don’t drink at all. The songs are catchy and I’ve taken a liking to them…that’s the point of this story.

What are your Summer Jamz for 2013?

Sweet Summertime

With another month of Summer of 2013 remaining, I think it's safe to say it can be summed up in a few words:
Wedding Prep

Allow me to explain...

It all started off pretty great. I discovered the wonderful ways of dry shampoo after reading waaay to many bloggers talk about the stuff and suddenly, I was wearing "3rd day hair"..ME. 3 DAYS! It was ahhhmazing. So amazing I broke one of my cardinal rules and took a selfie AND posted to the social media world.
We had a RAINY 4th of July that canceled so many plans, but finally a few days later the rain broke and we were able to spend a nice, relaxing time with our family.

Then the you know what hit the fan.

I got sick. BAD sick. Four and half days off from work sick. Plus a weekend. It. Was. Bad.
What started as Sprite and Gatorade by my bedside, quickly turned into Gatorade and 4 prescription medicines. (After a trip to the doctor's office and a whole night spent in the ER...yeah...it was bad.)
The one positive thing, if you want to call it that, to come out of that horrendous week, I started this little addiction.
This stupid app should've come with a warning lable. And because sometimes you JUST can't wait the ten or twenty minutes to get full lives, I discovered a little tricky trick that fixes the problem. However, it screws with the time and suddenly waiting ten or twenty minutes didn't seem like a big deal anymore...

My cousin Charity got married in July also. I managed to get ready and make it to the wedding. On that particular day, except for going to the doctor's office and my night in the ER, this was the FIRST and ONLY time I had been outside the apartment in 5 days. I made it through the wedding, but that was about it for this girl. I spent the rest of the day and the next day back in bed.

A couple days later and 12 lbs lighter, seriously, 12 lbs...again, it was bad, I made it back to work and don't you just love coming back a trashed desk and office and paperwork EVERYWHERE.

So I'll try to save this post and not end on a COMPLETELY depressing note, I found this tervis cup at Target...it's a flippin' mason jar! Yes, I am THAT southern. I would've bought three but we're on a budget now. Ha. It's pretty great though, I love it. RUN to Target and get one...right this very second!!
And I picked up a paintbrush for the first time in a couple of months to do an order for a co-worker. And I'm not going to lie, it felt pretty great to paint again. It was a nice break from wedding planning, unpacking shower gifts, and everything else happening to us right now.

Is that picture blurry? I just noticed this...oh well. Happens to everyone with iPhone every now and then.

HOPEFULLY this last month of Summer 2013 will be much more enjoyable than the first half. There are lots of exciting things getting ready to happen and I can't wait to enjoy them all and soak it all up!!

Happy Summer!

Wedding In Progress

Stephen has pretty much given me full reign on this wedding thing. That being said, I still run almost everything by him, but his answer is usually the same, "whatever you want babe."

Living in a Pinterest wedding world, I've tried really hard to not let it get to "pinterest-y". You know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that. Inevitably, there are some Pinterest inspired ideas that you will see. But they definitely have my own flair added to them.

There is alot of DIY projects in progress for this shindig, and I'm not going to lie, everything's been pretty enjoyable to work on. And because we started on little projects so far in advance, HOPEFULLY we won't be so stressed in the week or two before the wedding trying to get so many things done. (famous last words)

Here are a few sneek peaks into what we've been up to...

Any guesses on what this is going to be??
We were thrilled and blessed to have so many family members volunteer to spend a good chunk of their Saturday to come out and help us address and get our invitations ready. This was our assembly line in progress.
We've made a trip or two to Lowes...because let's be honest, if you're going to have a DIY wedding, you're going to HAVE to make a trip or two to Lowes. This particular one was with three of our besties and we we may have had a little too much fun in our local Lowes store. (Eventhough, they all look thrilled in this picture, ha, they really were having a good time. Then there's Patrick just off in the back entertaining himself.)
After one of our wedding showers, same said besties helped us haul all our gifts back to our apartment, unload and unpack, then we got all fancy and ordered take out and gathered around the coffee table for dinner. (More on that shower later on..it was FABULOUS!)
That particular wedding shower was hosted by Stephen's family. His grandma was in charge of making chicken salad. Which meant, we were all making chicken salad the night before the shower. We ended up with 26 lbs of chicken salad. They went on the whole, "would rather have too much than not enough" theory.

....they had enough......for an army......and the navy.
My college group of friends are having me a shower next month and sent out these invitations over the weekend. I kinda love that line they added in there. The backstory is that there's 13 of us, I'm the last one to get married.
Annnd.....Monday marked the big day! Invitations were mailed out!! I sent the future hubs this picture and text that said, "no turning back now!"
We're closing in on 40 days.....yikes!!

Can't wait to share more with you in the coming weeks!!

Adventures In Moving...Part 2

The move is complete….with the remaining few random boxes and totes laying around that you just don’t know what to do with yet. Pesky rodents.

Stephen and I decided to rent for the time being. I know there are several who will say and have said we should’ve bought…but for us at this time, it’s just not for us. We’re fine with renting for a while and buying later on.

One great advantage of living in a college town, there are PLENTY of rentals out there. We started looking about two weeks after TTU got out for the summer…smartest move we could’ve made. Because it was the rental property companies’ “turn-around season” we scored an EXCELLENT apart for a great deal. 2 bedrooms, 2 ½ bath, large living room, kitchen and laundry room and small deck outside. New, clean, and with the new, clean smell. The company knocked off quite a few $$ for us because it was ready to go and they didn’t have any new renters shopping at that time.

We got keys and signed papers on a Monday. Got electricity turned on, cable upgraded, wi-fi set up, cleaned...all the preliminary jobs.

Then on Friday we had some help moving in and hooking up our washer & dryer...then we just sat around and talked....in the floor....because we hadn't moved any furniture yet. #highclassfolks

So the official Moving Day was on a Saturday (June 29th to be exact) and we couldn’t have done it without the wonderful help of our family and friends. (Well we could have but it would’ve taken FOR. EV.ERRRRR. and could’ve possibly ended the relationship before our marriage. I kid, I kid.)

I had everything ready and waiting for the “movers” to come at 10a. I had A LOT of stuff. I knew this from the get go. I was prepared for how many trips it would take and how I’d have to unpack stuff. What I was not prepared for, was the emotions that would hit me like a brick to the face.

I was leaving my HOME. It hit me quick. The first piece of furniture out the door…the love seat…this was all really happening. I had to walk away. I’m such a wuss. I thought I was so prepared and organized and I was…I had been so preoccupied in preparing for the move that I hadn’t taken the time to think about the leaving part. I was leaving my home. Cue the tears.

I ended up crying 4 more times that day. #wimp Thankfully it was just me and my mom when the BIG tears started to flow. Bless her sweet, sweet heart.
That's her.....she was a trooper and cleaned the place once everything was out. And held me when I cried like a big 'ol baby. Ugh.

Once it was all said and done…the feeling and emotions of being totally overwhelmed sank in and I lost it again. (that was the 4th time I cried.) #wimpagain

Slowly but surely, it all started coming together and we were emptying boxes left and right. And before we knew it, it started feeling like a home…OUR home.

Fast forward a month and a half and there's still a few boxes left that haven't found their home yet. ANNND...there's ALL the shower gifts we've received. We've had two showers since we moved at the end of June and we have two more to go! At some point, once everything is put away and frames are hung on the wall and wedding decor items are gone away with, I'll post a little "home tour" for you....but be forewarned...that's MONTHS to come.

In summary:

Packing and moving is for the birds.
You will quickly realize how BLESSED you are by the help that others are willing to extend your way in giving up their weekend to help you.
Life is better when it’s not packed in cardboard boxes.
And, home is where you make it to be.

Annnd....if you move, do the next tennants a favor and CHANGE. YOUR. ADDRESS. For the love people. I get more mail for the girl who lived her before we did than I get of my own mail!
This was a stack of mail I accumulated for her in less than a week. Pretty sure chick just up and ran away and didn't tell ANNNYbody. So yeah, show some courtesy, change your address.
